The Summer Slaughter Tour and other wild adventures

0

Hey Fiends,

Hope you all had a chance to catch the broadcast of The Rock Solid Pressure Show on Monday night. It was an amalgam of maniacal music..as usual (lol). We’ve been talking so much about our crazy summer concert schedule. This is certainly the busiest summer on record in our 12 year history. It’s kicking our ass..in a good way! We had an awesome time at the WOMEN WHO ROCK event on Saturday night, but I want to quickly reflect on yesterday’s ‘SUMMER SLAUGHTER TOUR’ which invaded The State Theatre. It was the only Florida stop, so you can all imagine how packed it was. If you were there, you’re probably still recovering, and nursing your wounds (lol). Summer Slaughter is one of the biggest Death Metal Festivals going, and we were honored to ‘finally’ get it back in State Theatre. Some of you might remember the ‘first’ SS Tour’ which we also had at State Theatre. Needless to say, it was beyond epic!! People came in from all over the state to bear witness to an onslaught of the best Death Metal bands on the planet. This was also the biggest, and the most fierce moshpit I have ever seen at State Theatre..EVER!

We’re friends with a lot of bands on the tour and it was great to catch up with them at this giant festival. It was also great to catch up with ‘The Master Chef For The Rockers’ JOHN GEHRIG!! We usually see John at the big Death Metal Fests. He’s a master chef that sets up camp and caters these huge events. He feeds the bands, and the staff at State Theatre as well. It’s also one of the only times that Patty and myself get a chance to chow down on his gourmet delights. We love John and it’s always a pleasure hanging out with him. He’s also a kickass rocker who has an amazing collection of guitars.

So, all in all. It was totally awesome to see damn near everybody we know from the metal scene at this amazing festival. I’m sure people are going to be talking about this for a LONG TIME! I just want to thank all the amazing bands, and all the amazing people that made this event one for the record books. I’m in recovery mode today, but my ears are still ringing

*NEXT MONDAY NIGHT ON THE ROCK SOLID PRESSURE SHOW: Ok, this is weird. Next Monday night is my BIRTHDAY (lol) I’ve decided that instead of going out to see a horror movie. Or crashing a party!! We’re going to do an on air special to celebrate my old age. I’d rather spend my birthday with all our loyal listeners anyway. Usually we whip up a concert and feature our ‘family’ of bands to perform on our birthdays. We’re so busy this year that we didnt really have time to plan anything like that. We WILL be celebrating Patty’s birthday at THE INDUSTRY SHOWCASE on Sept 27th though. So here’s whats going to happen on Monday night. I’ll be spinning tracks that influenced my fragile eggshell mind from the 70’s. It will be tracks from albums (yes vinyl albums lol) that changed my life forever and made me want to pursue a career in music. Will it be weird stuff, dark stuff from the 70’s..HELL YES!! Some of it you’ll know, and some of it you certainly will NOT know. It will be extremely dark but don’t expect metal. Metal wasn’t even invented then, but expect some SABBATH (of course). In 1980 I was already touring, and I was heavily influenced by all the great metal bands in the 80’s, but we’re going to keep the focus on the 70’s. This will also be an ‘extended’ special. It might be 90 minutes. Anyway, I’m not going to reveal the playlist. You’ll have to tune in and see what a strange kid I was in the 70’s. Hope you can all join the party

*LIVE EVENTS THIS WEEK: We have 2 kickass events this weekend. Hoping to see you at both!!

Hungover..But Still Hangin’ In

0

Hey Fiends,

Well, we’re knee deep in a crazy July concert schedule. It’s definitely a survival test on our old bones. We’re still a bit hungover, but there’s many miles to go before we sleep. Hope you had a chance to catch the broadcast last night. We had a fanatastic weekend and partied it up..Maybe a bit too much (lol)..The AVENGING BENJI show at The Coliseum on Friday night was incredible!! It was amazing to see all the CRIMSON GLORY alumni that performed onstage..That was a FUN time for us!! On Sat we had TRAPT at The State Theatre. It was a packed house, and the local openers DARK SAVVANT and CROW kicked major ass!! We did not stick around for TRAPT or their support acts because a member of their crew was pushing our stage crew around. Seemed like this guy was looking for a fight. We didn’t give him one. We’re a bit more professional than that. So the entire stage crew left (lol) We sometimes deal with douchebags, but this guy took the cake. He was also overheard by everyone saying that ‘He Hated Local Bands’..That was pretty much it for me, and it took all my willpower to not give this guy the fight he wanted, and seriously this guy ‘wanted’ to fight.  I’m wondering how many venues on the tour have complained, or even tossed him from the premises. This guy was ‘not’ even the Tour Manager. Why is it that some of the smaller B-National bands are the one’s that have the dickheads on their crew? We deal with some of the biggest bands in the world at State Theatre, and usually their crew is really cool. Seems the problems we have had in the past, and there’s not many, are always from the B-Nationals. But when a crew member slams the local bands, thats pretty much it for me. The local bands brought in half the crowd for TRAPT. Well, I’m not going to harp on this. All I can say is, THE LOCAL BANDS KICKED ASS..Then we left, so did the stage crew..I forgot the guys name, not really worth mentioning anyway, but with an attitude like that, he won’t last long on many tours. At least we got an early night. We’re NOW preparing for a massive weekend with 3 shows in row..See below

4th Of July Weekend..Hangover Edition

0

Hey Fiends,

So, we had our ‘4th Of July’ special last night. It was pretty much the ‘Hangover’ edition. Since we were coming down from an exhausting weekend of concerts, we were not that animated (lol). The broadcast kicked ass though. Hope you had a chance to listen. We didn’t really dedicate the show to ‘Battle Hymns’ like we do every year, but we threw in a couple. It was more like a good ‘ol American ass-kickin. This past weekend kicked off an insane month of concerts for us. We’re going to be extremely busy in the field. Keep watching the posts. So many great concerts coming up!!!

LAST NIGHT’S PLAYLIST TO DIE FOR

*We also ranted about the lack of Horror Films this year. It seems the Hollywood Horror movies have died an untimely death in 2014. There have been a couple theatrical horror releases this year, but its all this politically correct tweenie bullshit. Even the one’s with an ‘R’ rating are NOT appealing to the majority of horror fans (like us) We know there’s a ton of horror flicks coming out on ‘Direct to DVD’. But most of that low budget stuff just SUCKS!! Granted, there are a few good one’s, but who has time to weed through all that shit to find a good one? Not us. We have not seen one horror movie this year at the theaters. Well, we can’t really count GODZILLA as a horror movie, and even that was dumbed down to a CGI mess to appease the kids. I didn’t like it. The 1998 version was much better. But thankfully we always have the classics from the 70’s and 80’s to fall back on, but I would like to see a revolution from the REAL horror fans to start bitching about this. This is an extremely frustrating decade for these types of movies. We understand that the industry has to appease the tweenies, but don’t turn your back on the adult audience. Ever since the 70’s, Horror Films appealed to all ages, and they were nasty, hellbound bloodfests. And the kids always managed to get their parents, or siblings to take them to the Drive-In to see these films (like me). This was years before all the politically correct remakes, which are mostly blasphemy in my book. And how bout this, all the tweenie Horror fans have already seen those nasty movies from the 70’s and 80’s. They seen them online and they EMBRACED THEM..So even the kids are not really that hip on these newer movies. Like I said, even the R-rated movies seem like they are geared towards a Disney crowd. Even last year, we had quite a few kickass horror movies. There was no sign at all that theatrical horror would die an untimely death. It seems these sheltered computer kids have grown up and taken over our sacred horror industry as Directors, Producers, and my god, Script Writers. After 12 years of being on the air, this MIGHT be our first year without a HORROR FILM OF THE YEAR to announce in January.. WES CRAVEN, JOHN CARPENTER, GEORGE ROMERO..Where the hell are you guys?

Hey Fiends,

Hope you had a chance to catch the broadcast last night. We fired off a lot of obscure stuff. It was certainly a learning experience. We love to blow your mind to music you have never heard before. Old age has it’s advantages (lol). We’ve lived through so many decades of kickass music, some of our influences are ‘extremely’ obscure.
