Fangsgiving In The Dungeon

0

Hey Fiends,

We had a great time in the Dungeon last night for our annual ‘Fangsgiving’ special. Unfortunately, our post celebration was short lived. After every show, we usually take an hour or two to chat online with some of our regular listeners. We’ve been doing that for years (and years). Last night was totally different. The madness in Ferguson seemed to engulf the nation an hour after our broadcast. I would like to take a minute and reflect my view on the entire mess. I never post my feelings about these types of social issues on facebook because I don’t like to force my views on people that do not care. I DO post my views over here because you come HERE to see how I feel on a bunch of different topics. I basically use facebook for my concert promotions, and of course, to promote The Rock Solid Pressure Show. I’m way to old to be getting into a public pissing match about how I feel on certain topics. So I only post my feelings over here. With that said. This is how I feel about Ferguson.

I feel there is no comparison at all to the Trayvon Martin / George Zimmerman case. And anyone that feels that these cases are related is strongly misguided. I feel there was a great injustice in letting George Zimmerman walk free in that case. Zimmerman went out looking for trouble. He was hunting. I feel it was cold blooded murder and I watched in astonishment when he was aquitted. THAT was an injustice. The Mike Brown case is totally different. This is why, and I’m speaking from experience. I was a bad kid growing up in Jersey. I ran with a bad gang of other wild kids. I had run in’s with crooked cops growing up in my hometown of Northfield. I was so out of control that the entire Police force of Northfield was just waiting for me to turn 18 so they could throw me in jail..Which they did on numerous occasions. But I was not ‘that; out of control to know that when they pointed a gun at me and told me to lie down with my hands behind my head, I was not stupid enough to try to fight them. Of course I was never armed, but that would not stop some backwater local cop from blowing my head off if I did not comply. You would have to be totally insane to try to fight a cop with a gun. Especially if they are backwater hometown cops like in my small city of Northfield, AND in the city of Ferguson.

Mike Brown appeared to be a wild kid like myself. I feel he did not deserve to be killed in the street. That is obviously an injustice. Especially since he was unarmed. But the entire problem lies in the fact that he was being pulled over for shoplifting and he refused to get on the ground. The worst part is that he ‘attacked’ the cop. Ok, so you’re going to shoplift, get caught, then ‘attack’ the cop?. Where I’m from, they would give you 10 years in prison for something like that. How ‘wild’ can you be? How stupid can you be? When you’re dealing with local yokel cops like this, ANYTHING can happen. And unfortunately, it cost this kid his life. If he just would have complied, none of this would have happened. The worst thing is that he faced a shoplifting charge..THAT’S IT!! I blame both parties for this one. Yes, it was excessive to kill someone who is unarmed. Whether he is attacking you or not. You’re a COP. Who the hell trained you ‘Disney World?’. Wilson was over 6 feet tall. Brown was over 6 feet tall. The cop was not trained to fight? If he was so scared for his life, he could have easily got back into his cruiser and waited for backup. RIGHT? But when you’re dealing with ‘these’ types of cops, you should assume, as a perpetrator, that things are not going to be by the book.

I also feel that the feds are going to step in on this matter. Much like they did in the Rodney King case, where the cops were eventually prosecuted. But I do not see this as a racially motivated matter. Whereas the Trayvon Martin case was a clear case of racial injustice. I feel this is a matter of a rogue cop taking the law into his own hands, and a confused kid who wanted to show off his ‘Thug Life’ to his friends who were standing around. I blame ‘both’ parties for this one. I also feel that the lootings and burnings in Ferguson had ‘nothing’ to do with solidarity for Mike Brown’s family. I felt it was just an excuse for a lot of thugs to get a new TV set, and create carnage and destruction in the name of unity for the black community. WHAT MADE MATTERS WORSE is that the announcement from the Grand Jury’s findings were released after 9:00pm. What the hell was this idiot Prosecutor thinking? Did he want his city to burn? Well, he got his wish. In closing on this matter. I feel it’s not over, and I feel the feds will be stepping in. It’s just such a strange case. There was some hard lessons learned here. But the bottom line is this. You CANNOT attack a cop that is arresting you, or even if you’re being questioned. I guess it determines what city this is happening in. But in the town of Ferguson, like my hometown of Northfield. The cops seem like a crooked, close knit bunch. You don’t stand a chance..THAT’S MY TAKE ON IT

Dungeon Fun with CROBOT

Hey Fiends

Well, I’m sitting here freezing my ass off, and I’m loving it!! Why you ask? It’s because I live in Florida and I’m sick and tired of sweating my ass off. I’m originally from Jersey and I love this time of year down here in the Sunshine State. A lot of our friends around the country are snowed in, and I’m sure they would switch places with me right now..But I’m diggin the hell outta this cold snap. At least all you ‘snowed-in’ stoners get to do SNOW BONGS!! And speaking of Bongs..On Monday’s broadcast of The Rock Solid Pressure Show, we featured Stoner Sensations ‘CROBOT’ (Wind Up Records). Actually, it was a pre taped interview we did with the band at a recent performance. I honestly have to say, this was one of the most exciting shows I have seen all year. Patty and myself are involved in like 10 national concerts per month. Sometimes more, sometimes less. I’ve been involved in the industry since 1981, so yeah, I’m a bit jaded. It’s extremely hard to impress me these days. But every now and then, something like CROBOT comes along. They gave me a wake up call as to why I’m still in this business. And to why I dedicated my entire life to music.

CROBOT has that 70’s Hard Rock / Early Metal vibe. They put a modern spin on this retro vibe, which is currently all the rage this year. I’ve seen many bands with this type of sound take ‘huge’ signings this year. Being in Radio, Event Coordination, and having affiliations with some of the biggest labels in the world. I’m lucky enough to have all these great new bands sent to me. The ‘stoner’ trend of 2014 was one of the most exciting shifts in music I’ve seen in quite awhile. I’m ‘loving’ the fact that this music is destroying the ‘Indie’ and ‘Hipster’ bands. Being a Metal fan, I was sure I was going to lose the fight with the hipsters. The ‘stoner’ bands are a lot like the forefathers who invented the Metal sound. Yes, these new bands are young, yet their fanbase is comprised of ‘all ages’. CROBOT is leading the pack right now. You might not have heard of the band yet. But by next year, this band will be a household name.

One thing that I noticed at their concert. The band is so energetic and frenetic on stage, it’s impossible to sit down during their performance. I do not believe a human being can sit on their ass and watch this show. Even ‘I’ was propelled off my chair to join the crowd in front of the stage. I don’t even get up for some ‘Death Metal’ shows (lol) Their vocalist (Brandon) could possibly be the best frontman I’ve seen in many many years. It’s the wildest, coolest thing I’ve experienced in a long time. The band was ‘invited’ to tour with ANTHRAX and VOLBEAT, which is coming up. They also have a tour with CHEVELLE coming up. We hung out with the band all night, and we partied quite a bit (wink). The interview we aired was a crazy peek into the bands mindset. Their tunes are a bit dark, and fantasy driven. This is a band after our black hearts. I cannot wait to have this band at State Theatre next year. If they’re not playing ‘only’ arenas by that time. Do yourself a favor and check out CROBOT!! You’ll thank me!!

*MOVIE REVIEW: THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN (2014) So it seems Hollywood has turned their back on ‘real’ horror films this year. Most of the ‘real’ horror films have been driven underground, but they’re out there..Here’s one that will blow your mind..

MY REVIEW: This is actually a sequel to the Drive-In Classic with the same name from 1976. The original was based on actual murders which happened in 1946 in Texarcana. The killer was never caught. The new film is ‘not’ a remake, and introduces a copycat killer. The film is based in 2013. It’s a kickass and highly inventive film. This sequel is so damn good, it reminded me of a Rob Zombie film. This could never be shown at the theaters because it goes against all the politically correct tweenie horror bullshit that has dominated all the theatrically released horror films this year. It goes against everything in fact. It’s not so good for the town of Texarcana though. The movie in 1976 pretty much destroyed tourism in that town, and this one is not going to help that situation. The movie unfolds on Halloween, where it is now a tradition to show the 1976 film at the local Drive-In (hell yeah). Little does the town know, but there’s a copycat killer lurking. And he’s killing people in the same manner as the victims in the first film. The entire movie is based around the first film actually. It’s really unique and extremely brutal. I didn’t like the ending though which was a bit stupid and reminded me of ‘Scream’, but I forgive them because the entire movie had me on edge and glued to the set. This is a brand new film that was just released. It’s available everywhere. I highly suggest you see it if you are a ‘real’ horror fan. This is probably the best horror film I’ve seen all year. It’s running a close race with ‘The Butterfly Room’..REAL horror is not dead!!

PATTY’S REVIEW: I think it’s a decent slasher flick. Great film making and awesome execution of the script. Great acting as well. I suggest watching the first film before you watch this though. It will help the impact. At first, I spent some time comparing it to the first film, which was based on the actual ‘Moonlight Murders’ in Texarcana in 1946. It almost seemed like a remake..Then things changed drastically. The new film is extremely gory, yet not over the top. this is a compelling movie. The Director is ‘American Horror Story’s’ own Alfonso Gomez Rejon..Need I say more? SEE IT!!

*AND ON A FINAL NOTE we would like to wish our Music Administrator BRADON HAIGLER a speedy recovery. He was admitted to the Hospital a few days ago. He’s family and we can’t wait to have him back. Please go to his facebook page and cheer him up

That’s it for this week
